Topshop took the London Fashion Week to present the latest womenswear collection prepared for the fall winter 2016 season. The main idea of the collection is channeling women’s inner vamp. Topshop designers used form-fitting leather skirts, sheer lace dresses and glittering sequins to emphasize individuality and character.
FALL WINTER 2016 WOMENSWEAR SHOWS
If all the world is a stage – she has the role that everybody wants – a rebel in a rush, she excites mannish cuts with racy femininity.
Against the austere backdrop of the Duveen galleries, she paces in carefree contrasts – skinny long johns topped with oversize military fur-collar bombers, voluminous houndstooth trousers and cropped knits with exaggerated shoulder detail. The essence of British style, she retells timeless codes with a cool spin. Her seduction is provocative – a hot cyclamen pink lace mini-dress comes with a perversely prim collar, the camo-leopard midi-dress is sheer enough to shock with seductive ties (daring to untie at any second). The eye is drawn to her décolletage with bra-tops teamed with mannish army trousers that sit knowingly at a lower point on the hips.
Such daring needs the perfect cover, and statement outerwear is key – a houndstooth car coat with a shearling revere, felted aviators and chestnut razored furs are the perfect transseasonal choices. The glacial seduction of Romy Schneider and Charlotte Rampling in the racy black oversize duster coat and Arctic white shearling. The Melton trench coat, all the easier to pull on in a hurry in its soft new guise (drape over a velvet negligée or the sinuous sequined landscape dress).
The play’s the thing, and she revels in the mix of printed silks inspired by the Bard – The Winter’s Tale landscape decorates hems, and the Shrew historical floral is beguilingly pretty. Oversize mohair jumpers roar with a rock sensibility and the purr of merino cashmere knits entice in ribbed utilitarian melange.
Evening is predestined to wow, with embellished star-crossed velvets – a slip dress and corseted mini. The smoking blazer over wide-legged grey denim makes for a meta-modern tuxedo, and the touch-me long johns an exciting (and effortless) alternative for after midnight glamour. Historical classicism clashes with tactile velvet, Chelsea boots step up with clear perspex side inserts. Inspired by Tudor rebel Anne Boleyn, monogrammed courtly pearl chokers and hoop earrings add street-smart individuality. – from Topshop
